What is the open mic of the air?

Poets of the world, unite! If you are searching for poetic community and an outlet for your pent up creative energy, this is an opportunity to share your poetry and be inspired by the poetry of others while you’re at home avoiding the Coronavirus.

You can check out the first Open Mic of the Air featuring 14 poets from around the world: Brazil, Mexico, India, both coasts of the United States, and the heartland.

how to submit

1. Make an audio recording. No more than 5 minutes in total length. State your name, where you’re from, give the title of your poem, and read the poem. If you want to include a sentence about yourself and/or the poem, feel free to include that as well.

2. Attach to an e-mail. Title: YOUR NAME // WHERE YOU ARE FROM // POEM TITLE and send to openmicoftheair@gmail.com.

3. OPTIONAL: In the body of your email include a paragraph of biographical information about yourself and any relevant links to a personal website or recent work.

where will this air?

Recordings are edited together and posted as episodes of the Poetry Spoken Here podcast. Poetry Spoken Here is available on iTunes, stitcher, and SoundCloud. All poets whose works are selected will be notified via email and are encouraged to share the links to their episode far and wide.

If your work is not in English, please provide a translation in the recording after you read the work in your native language. Unfortunately, our production team is English-speaking and cannot effectively review content in other languages. If this project is popular enough, we will work on finding speakers of other languages to review submissions.

We don’t know how many submissions will come in, so we cannot guarantee your poem will be posted, but all submissions will be listened to and receive a reply and we will try to get as many as possible online.

The first Open Mic of the Air was posted on Friday, March 27th.
